Working Together to Support Early Years Development with Tia Ana’s Nursery

Since September 2024, Clapping Hands CIC and Tia Ana’s Nursery have been working in partnership to deliver a pilot project called “Early Support in Early Years.”

This collaborative project brings culturally responsive early intervention sessions directly into the nursery — helping children build confidence, communication, language and emotional regulation.

As part of the partnership:

  • Clapping Hands CIC delivers weekly sessions onsite.
  • Tia Ana’s Nursery provides space and welcomes families into the setting.
  • Children are referred through the nursery or Speech & Language pathways.

Over the school year, we’ve already seen positive progress in the children taking part —  from improved attention and communication skills to greater confidence in group settings.

“For many years we have seen children’s frustrations unable to communicate and families on long waiting lists to access support, since we started this one-to-one and group programme with clapping hands in our setting children are more confident and their progress is wonderful to see. They not only get tools to communicate, they have quick and early interventions and in many cases support towards other SEN interventions they would have otherwise had to wait until primary school.” – Ana, Nursery Owner

It’s been rewarding to see how the children respond to the therapy sessions. The early years of development are a crucial time for developing communication skills, and even small changes mark significant milestones. Bringing speech and language therapy directly into the nursery enables the children and families to access more immediate and impactful support.Ignacio, Speech and Language Therapist
